Top 5 Questions About Myrtle Beach Fishing Charters | Answered by a Local Captain

Updated: Jun 11

Planning your fishing trip off the coast of Myrtle Beach? Before you cast off, check out these five frequently asked questions tourists and first-timers are asking on Google and Reddit. These answers will help you prep like a pro and book the right charter for your crew.

1. Can I book a fishing charter last minute in Myrtle Beach?

Yes, you can book last-minute charters in Myrtle Beach especially for smaller boats or off-season dates. For private offshore trips (like our 6, 8, or 10-hour charters), I recommend booking 24–48 hours ahead, especially during peak summer months when we fill up fast.

Pro Tip: Booking online guarantees your spot and lets me prep everything ahead of time, bait, gear, and hot fishing intel.

2. Where do Myrtle Beach fishing charters launch from?

Most offshore trips, like the ones I run, launch out of Murrells Inlet, just south of Myrtle Beach. I typically leave from Crazy Sister Marina, which puts us close to deep reefs and structure where the big fish live. Why not Myrtle Beach proper? There aren’t suitable public launch points for offshore boats in the city limits. Murrells Inlet is the trusted hub.

3. What can I expect on a 6-hour offshore fishing charter?

A 6-hour charter takes us 20–30 miles offshore, where we’ll fish for King Mackerel, Snapper, Triggerfish, and sometimes Cobia or Bonito depending on the season. You’ll get real offshore action, expert gear, fish cleaning, and time to enjoy the afternoon back on land. Perfect for families, casual anglers, or anyone wanting a great intro to deep sea fishing.

4. Is pier fishing better than booking a charter in Myrtle Beach?

Pier fishing is fun and affordable, but if you're after bigger fish, fewer crowds, and better results, a deep sea charter wins hands down. Offshore trips like mine target Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, King Mackerel, and other high-value species you just won’t find near the beach. Bottom line: Want a photo-worthy catch? Book the boat.

5. Are private fishing charters worth it for families?

Absolutely. Private charters give you flexibility, space, and custom attention. With my 32’ center console, your family can fish comfortably with no strangers onboard.

I customize trips for kids too, calmer spots, easier gear, and species they can reel in themselves. Plus, you get to take the fish home (cleaned and bagged, of course).
